Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology (LAICO)
Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology contributes to eye care services through teaching, training, research and consultancy. It offers university affiliated long-term courses in hospital management as well as several skill development courses in the areas of instrument maintenance, community outreach and social marketing, counseling and management of eye hospitals. LAICO also offers capacity building activities for other eye hospitals and helps them customize the Aravind model to suit their individual needs.
This opportunity to exchange knowledge and expertise with others from around the world, both in clinical and management disciplines, requires doctors, paramedics, faculty and staff to travel from within India and abroad.
Donations to the Training fund will help support the cost for:
Visiting Faculty - to conduct courses and interact with the Aravind system and strengthen its ability to adapt to the diverse global environment.
Scholarships - will sponsor participants who are unable to obtain organizational sponsorship and will benefit from this course. The cost of attending such training courses by way of fees, travel, food, stay, etc., is a barrier to a significant number of people.
On-site Support - LAICO charges nominal fees for its courses to make them affordable for participants from developing countries. This revenue covers only a small fraction of the cost. The remaining costs need to be supported by way of grants and donations, for the training programs to expand and function smoothly. |
